White Sox place Putnam on DL, recall Beck

White Sox reliever Zach Putnam listed himself as the definition of day-to-day due to right elbow inflammation when talking to the media on Monday. But with the right-hander unavailable on Tuesday, the club decided to place him on the 10-day DL (retroactive to Saturday).

Split the season between the White Sox and Class AAA Charlotte … made 25 relief appearances with the Sox, including 13 from 9/1 through the end of the season. Limited first batters faced to a .182 average (4-22) … did not allow any of his nine inherited runners to score … 17 of his outings were 1.0-plus IP. Was recalled from Charlotte on 6/21, replacing RHP Zach Putnam (disabled list) in the White Sox bullpen … made his season debut on 6/23 at Boston, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over 1.0 IP. Made his first career appearance at U.S. Cellular Field on 6/25 vs. Toronto, working 1.2 scoreless IP with two strikeouts. Was optioned back to Charlotte on 7/10 and recalled on 8/12, replacing Miguel Gonzalez on the roster … earned his first major-league win on 8/13 at Miami (1.1 perfect IP). Surrendered a game-winning, three-run home run to Justin Upton in the 11th inning on 9/5 vs. Detroit … worked 1.1 scoreless IP for his second win on 9/7 vs. Detroit.
